What explains student performance? A review research

Student performance is the target of studies around the world. In this sense, research is carried out and seeks to identify factors that interfere with academic success. This research aims to carry out a narrative review in the light of the scientific literature that highlights the factors associated with student performance in Basic Education and Higher Education. A narrative review of the scientific literature from the Google Scholar database was used as a methodological strategy. We identified factors in the personal context of students, teachers and educational institutions associated with academic performance. Factors that are difficult to be faced in a society characterized by social inequalities in Brazil, revealing a challenge for educational policy makers in creating assessment tools that ensure equity in assessments.
