Abstract

Nicole Oresme was a man of many attributes and, in a century punished by the Black Death that considerably reduced the intellectual production, he could develop treatises on diverse subjects. In the case of Mathematics, it allowed the advancement of subjects previously studied and was original in the elaboration of concepts that had not yet been unveiled. His main contributions are points by coordinates, fractional exponent and sum of infinite series. In this article, we discuss the possibilities of articulation between mathematics and history of mathematics with foundation in the Oresme’s work. We take as bibliographical references the translations of Edward Grant (1965) and Marshall Clagett (1964).
