Resumo

O objetivo do estudo é revisar e descrever as principais evidências disponíveis relacionadas à abordagem diagnóstica da dor facial, especialmente na atenção primária, e fornecer uma ferramenta que sintetize os achados. Foi realizada uma revisão da literatura por meio de buscas em bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, Google Scholar e Scopus. Foram utilizadas as palavras-chave “facial pain”, “facial neuralgia”, “trigeminal nerve disease”, e “diagnosis”. Encontrou-se que a dor facial deve ser abordada sindromaticamente e etiologicamente, identificando aspectos da dor sugestivos de alteração neurológica central ou periférica e realizando um estudo clínico e paraclínico completo para identificação da etiologia. Concluímos que a dor facial requer uma abordagem abrangente e deve ser um tema central nos programas de ensino de medicina e odontologia.
