Políticas de acesso à água subterrânea no seridó paraibano: um estudo espaço-temporal

Abstract

The dry lands are characterized by being regions that present water scarcity in the constitution of their landscapes. Among the regions that fit into this context is the Brazilian semiarid. Historically, several public policies have acted in the region, promoting actions that allow access to water, including the drilling of wells and the Água Doce Program-PAD, responsible for installing desalination systems in areas with saline or brackish water. Therefore, the objective of this work is to carry out a survey of the wells and actions of PAD existing in Seridó Paraibano’s, analyzing its evolutionary process during the time scale from 2005 to 2020, highlighting its presence and spatialization over the years along the municipalities of the region. The methodology used in this study was the Spatial and Cartographic Analysis, using information referring to the wells and the desalination systems of the PAD, allowing to analyze the evolution of this policy in the region. The data indicate the accentuated growth of both wells and desalination plants over the analyzed period. The results show that desalination plants are still incipient in the region, in terms of the number of municipalities and the population served, while the wells are more intense.
