The purpose of this brief essay is re-read a critical review I wrote about the manifesto “A Pedagogy of Multiliteracies: Designing Social Futures”, authored by a group of researchers from Australia, England and the United States known as The New London Group, which completes 25 years in 2021. By carrying out a more up-to-date reading, I try to discuss, in particular, the idea of contingent designs, term that I coined in 2016 based on the manifesto, in order to situate it in light of two interconnected literacies events that were quite outstanding in the Brazilian political scenario in 2018, widely publicized by social networks: the truck drivers’ strike and the presidential elections.
