45 anos de Elegia para uma re(li)gião: revisitando a “economia política do planejamento regional”

In this work, we focus on the economic sense of the analysis presented in Elegy for a re(li)gion to glimpse some aspects of Francisco de Oliveira's complex critique carried out as a "political economy of the Brazilian North East’s regional planning". We understand that his criticism has many layers and it is in this complexity that he bases his conception of region; in a way that there he can find the starting point not only for the understanding of the particular political-economic relations of the brazilian economy by the time of its national integration project, in which SUDENE will play a fundamental role, but also the very “world vision” that substantiates this process, its particular Weltanschauung. We will, therefore, show how from two main axes of discussion - the relation between economic growth and economic development and the nature and role of the State – he will rethink (from a marxist perspective) the region as a category to present it in a multidimensional perspective: not only economic, therefore , but also political, historical and geographical.
