Abstract

Due to a variety of factors, several families migrated to the city, causing the process called urban growth, where most of these spaces were not prepared to receive this population contingency. With this urban swelling, problems arose such as the increase in unsanitary areas, followed by the lack of provision of basic services. The genesis of the city construction process has always been based on economic logic and not designed for the equity of urban space. Based on this assumption, these areas tend to be fragmented by the agents producing the urban space, forming the center and periphery regions, with very different urban conditions. The Jaracaty community, the spatial part of this work, is one of the greatest evidences of this socio-spatial segregation. Armed with qualitative methods and the cartographic and photographic survey of the region, our main objective is to demonstrate the contradictions and contrasts in relation to the community and the other buildings that surround it.

Lucas Silva Carvalho, State University of Maranhão

Graduated in Geography from the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), and studying Geography at the same institution.

My name is Lucas Silva Carvalho, a graduate in Geography from the State University of Maranhão (UEMA), currently a Master's student in Geography at the same institution. My work focuses on monitoring erosion processes in an experimental station, in addition to developing didactic pedagogical experiments.

Hermeneilce Wasti Aires Pereira Cunha, State University of Maranhão

He has a degree in Geography from the Federal University of Maranhão (1996), Specialization in Environmental Planning (UFMA/1999), a Master's degree in Agroecology from the State University of Maranhão (2003) and a PhD in Geography from the São Paulo State University (UNESP/ PP) (2012). She is currently Adjunct Professor IV at the State University of Maranhão. Develops research projects aimed at the inclusion of people with physical disabilities in urban spaces and social inclusion. She is part of the GEDITE research groups (Territorial Dynamics Study Group) and Coordinator of the APOENA Research Group (Geographic Studies Group on Cities, Health and Sustainability). In Extension, he guides work focused on Health Geography and social problems. He has experience in the area of Geography, with an emphasis on Health Geography, Urban Geography, Tourism Geography, working mainly on the following topics: São Luís, Accessibility, Mobility, Education and Accessible Cities. In Academic Management, he was assistant to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (2017/2018); Admissions and Transfer Coordinator (PROG 2015/2017); Deputy coordinator of the Teaching Teacher Training Program (2021/2022); TCC Coordinator of the Teaching Program (20221/2022); Director of the Geography Undergraduate and Bachelor's Degree Course (2019/2022). Professor of the Postgraduate Course in Geography (PPGEO-UEMA). He was an assistant at the Exact and Natural Sciences Education Center (CECEN). She is currently Deputy Secretary for Science, Technology and Higher Education (SECTI). .
