This paper investigates national imagination related to the writing, edition, and reading of the first literature books children audience are offered in Brazil. Brazilian editorial market genesis, mainly represented by school books, rises among beliefs and disillusions of the first republican stage. Therefore, this research focuses on the materiality of book-objects, which support editorial choices, texts writing, and creative appropriation. As important as nation’s literary representation are the plural and different modalities of works’ development of meanings, according to the dynamics of the interdependence web of social positions that producers occupy, their action and thought scripts, as well as the share concerning to the uses and representations readers do.
