Certain narratives have associated religion with tradition whereas today the emphasis is on religion as personal experience. This challenges the conventional model of modernity.
Take the issue of communication. This primary process can be expanded to include diverse forms whereby notions are communicated not just through rational language but also
through metaphors and symbols. On this level, it is possible bringing together the two schools of thought on religion: tradition and experience. To understand modernity from the pointof view of contemporary religiosities
seems crucial to thinking about alternative
modernities.
