Abstract

In this article, we throw light upon the musical arrangements of maestro Radamés Gnattali that were performed in an innovative way in the program A Million Melodies. During the Vargas government, the convergence of capitalist investment with a culture-propagating mass media allowed the popularization and standardization of a new style, which his arrangements facilitated. This transformed pop music and helped samba, above all, become a national symbol.
We conclude that the music diffused by the National Radio in the 40s and 50s influenced Brazilian territorial integration and the creation of a national feeling
