In a context of growing global
poverty, multilateralism has sanctioned
the idea that the only possible
way to ‘alleviate poverty’ is through
‘international aid’, or to be precise,
through capital and technology
transfer. The World Bank, today the
greatest expression of multilateralism,
became the prime promoter of
anti-poverty policies. To better understand
the implications of this
agency’s intervention, we examine
World Bank documents and the reflections
of researchers regarding the
concept of poverty.
