Abstract

South America integration has in Brazil a strong mainstay. However, recent developments may bring challenges to its regional leadership. In this article the authors discuss how Plan Colombia and the growing military presence of the United States in the Brazilian geostrategic neighborhood may create new
sources of insecurity for Brazil.
