Abstract

Based on the experiences of two Syrian refugees who sought legal protection in the city of Fortaleza, this paper seeks to   analyze the conflicts and perceptions  
of these actors regarding social
suffering before, during, and after the refugee venture. The aim of the article is to understand the identity processes of refugees and the category of refugee, from a sociological perspective. Therefore, it is expected to contribute
to the scientific debate and improve public policies on the subject.

Wendell de Freitas Barbosa, Doutor em Sociologia pela Universidade Federal do Ceará e professor adjunto da Universidade Federal do Cariri do curso de Administração Pública. Atualmente responde pela Direção do Centro de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas da Universidade Federal do Cariri e é pesquisador de Produtividade pela FUNCAP.
