The article discusses the polarization between empire builders, and their vassal regimes, and mass movements. The analysis of the historical shifts in Latin America is important to delineate present and future struggles: energy sources; the agrarian question; unemployment; and human rights. The author concludes that a progressive resolution to major questions of our time requires the defeat of the imperial project.
