This article analyzes the military´s role in the development of civilization. I argue that modern social thought has a limited scope on war, military and the nation-state. Such issues impugn the superior status alleged of civilized humanity. Modernity does not assimilate confrontation as inherent of human experience and rejects it as the propellent of civilization because this is against their most preserved convictions.
