Abstract

On April 25, 1974, the most ancient European dictatorship fell, due to an articulated movement especially made the young officials Portuguese Army and the most “liberal” sectors of the military elite, which initiated a moment of political and social turmoil. At a moment of Cold War worsening, it helped bring the world’s attention to Portugal and its former colonies. Thus, those areas started to have a very important role in the political calculations of the Great Powers in the international arena.
