In this article we present the perception of the Brazilin composer Chico Buarque on his compatriots. We analyze his lyrics that describe a wide social mosaic in which the complaints of unacceptable situations are mixed with the trust for a promising future. The Brazilian is characterized as a worker without backing, submitted to great sufferings, but also as a freedom lover, smart, partying, joker, emotive, and almost always full of hope.
