Abstract

One of the most striking upheavals in America in the last 50 years, the “Caracazo” motivated discussions and actions that led to the end of bipartisanship in Venezuela. The event provided an opportunity for coups and paved the way for Chavezstyle democracy and the guidelines of “progressivism” of the XXI century.
We express some aspects that try to break with some populist mythology surrounding February 27, 1989.
