With the default of French imperialism in the Indochina War, the military created the thesis that its war doctrine was not prepared to face this threat: na internal enemy that would be acting in favor of communism. This thesis arrived in Brazil in 1960 and some segments of the press played their part in publicizing it, contributing to the legitimization of the 1964 coup d’état.
