In foreign policy few issues deserve such an intense discussion by Brazilian society as South American integration. The creation of Unasul is part of the region’s maturity. The aim of this article is to contribute to understanding the significance of Unasul from a political and strategic perspective, to see it as a change of paradigm in South American relationships and as an opportunity to accelerate development of the member states and an international projection of the region in a multipolar world.
