From a historical perspective, I examine
how the main Spanish political
actors and mass-media have revitalized
the myth of the ‘two Spains’, as a
consequence of the terrorist attacks of
Al-Qaeda, in Madrid, on March 11th
2004. Through six symptoms of the
longue durèe observed during
Zapatero’s first administration (2004-
2008), I show how the Left and the Right
of today have personified the symbolic
identifications associated with
the Second Republic and the Civil War
(1931-1939).
