Abstract

In 1975, the political changes in Portugal paved the way for the final decommissioning of its colonial empire, and, in particular, the independence of Angola. Although, at the time, Brazil still lived under the aegis of a dictatorial regime, such events had a wide coverage in the press. The article shows that
this occurred because of Brazil’s international interests and the lighter censorship applied to foreign news.
