Academic freedom and higher education in Mozambique

Neo-liberal policies has changed the social role and identity of Mozambican universities and marginalized the poorest social groups. Despite the advances in
many African political systems, the autonomy of educational and research institutions have been threatened. Using the experience of Mozambican public universities, this study reflects upon the 1990’s discussions on academic freedom in Africa.
