The Senegambian Confederation comprised of Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Mali and part of Mauritania between 1982 and 1989 witnessed the actions of a Casamance separatist group that spawned large-scale regional insecurity. This article analyses how the Confederation’s dissolution contributed to reinforcing the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MDFC).
