Abstract

This article presents the environmental movement campaigns for green areas in Fortaleza, city located at the Brazilian semiarid, in the context of capitalist
expansion and under the influence of drought and flooding. Using oral history and participant observation methods it concludes that imported urban models
and real real estate speculation violate the principles of sustainability.
