The article analyzes the hegemonic interpretations in Brazil on the conflict started by Bolivian president Evo Morales with his Hidrocarbons Nacionalization Decree, issued the 1st May 2006. This decision affected Petrobrás investments in Bolivia and provocated the most serious crisis in Brazilian foreign policy during
the first presidential term of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2006).
