The fetish of public debt and the imposition of neoliberalism
Keywords:
Public Debt, Coloniality, Neoliberalism, FetishismAbstract
Public indebtedness is a mechanism for maintaining power relations between central and peripheral countries, as it perpetuates
the dependency observed in colonial
times. In order to obscure this
situation and allow it to continue,
developed countries rely on the
imposition of neoliberal guidelines in underdeveloped countries, which led to the fetishization of public debt, as they take it as a key element in the economy, despite its perniciousness.
