Abstract

In the XXIst century, Brazil has claimed an increase in maritime territory and has established closer relations with African countries due to strategic resource discoveries in the South Atlantic. The paper objective was to analyze the importance of the region to the international scenario and the Brazil-Africa  cooperation in defense agreements. It was found that despite greater and more active projection in the regional surroundings, Brazil still needs to exercise its leadership role more assertively.
