Abstract

This article investigates the relation between women sterilizations in Puerto Rico, as a mecanism of populational control, and the economics necessities dictated by the U.S. imperialism on the island, after all, the massification of the sterilizations occurred at the same time as the industrial development patrocinated by the U.S, from 1947. Besides, we’ve pointed the role of the eugenics and neomaltushians conceptions as ideologies that guided the process.

Marcela Piloto de Proença, História - USP

Marcela Piloto de Proença é graduanda em História pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Participa do Laboratório de Economia Política e História Econômica (LEPHE-UP). Realizou pesquisa de Iniciação Científica com bolsa CNPq, com o tema: “Acumulação de Capital e esterilização de mulheres em Puerto Rico: 1947-1968” (2019), orientada pelo Prof. Dr. Lincoln Secco. Expositora na mesa “As mulheres na Internacional Comunista”, no Simpósio Internacional: 100 anos da Internacional Comunista (2019, FLLCH-USP). Publicou uma entrevista com Silvia Federici e uma resenha de sua obra Calibã e a Bruxa, intitulados Entre o sabá e a fogueira: mulheres na transição para o capitalismo (Revista Mouro, 2017). Lincoln Secco

Lincoln Secco estudou letras na Universidade de São Paulo (USP) onde também fez bacharelado, licenciatura, mestrado, doutorado e livre docência em História. É Professor de História contemporânea na USP desde 2003. É autor, entre outros livros, de A revolução dos Cravos (Alameda, 2003), História do PT (Ateliê, 2011) e Histoire du Parti des travailleurs au Brésil (Editions du Sextant, 2016).
