The article systematizes marxist contributions to the understanding of regionalism as a phenomenon in International Relations. To this end, it presents marxist interpretations of European integration and Latin American regionalism, highlighting their critical potential in challenging dominant perspectives in the field. It argues that the connection between globalization and regionalism, as well as the structural dynamics of capitalism that interlink these, is a key Marxist contribution to the field.
