The political and economic transformations that the 1944 Revolution introduced in Guatemala also touched the Maya communities. The historical trajectories of theme, in the same way, posed challenges to said Revolution. The meeting between the revolutionary government and the communities that sought to open up a political space of self-determination, was a moment that made the struggle possible but also reproduced colonial styles of domination over the Maya themselves.
