It is proposed to discuss strategic dependence in peripheral countries. Theoretical production privileges foreign industrial/technological transfers as a perpetual source of dependence. Here, supported by the bibliography, the approach is inverted based on the concept of strategic autonomy, thought in terms of freedom of decision, political action, and, fundamentally, of thought. Without autonomous strategic thinking, the autonomy of political decision-making in the area of defense is nothing more than a mirage for the periphery.
