Abstract

This article addresses recent coups d’état in the Sahel region, using data and available literature to map and explain their contexts. It aims to transcend the dominant
interpretation, evaluating whether they constitute a movement towards decolonization in response to French
interference and redemocratization to curb institutional personification of power.
