The emergence of International NGOs in Mozambique, 1983-2000
Keywords:
Mozambique, INGOs, Natural Disasters, WarAbstract
The article seeks to understand the impact of INGO intervention in Mozambique since 1983. The objective was to identify factors that explain the proliferation of INGOs and argues that natural disasters, war and the PRES were determinant. Preliminary results show that the problems created by drought, floods, combined with the economic crisis, allowed hundreds of INGOs to act in emergency aid with reconstruction and rehabilitation programs, traditionally the role of the State.
