POSTURAS RUSSELLIANAS FRENTE AO ARGUMENTO ONTOLÓGICO

Abstract

In his Autobiography, Bertrand Russell mentions an epiphany about the Ontological Argument to which the philosopher attributes his departure from idealism. The present work aims to measure the influence of the Argument on Russellian thought, which will be based on an analysis of the two positions taken by Russell towards the reasoning: first, that understanding existence as a property is a grammatical incoherence and, second, the one that accepts the validity of the Argument but sees in it a fallacy of begging the question. Thus, we will glimpse issues that allowed the thinker to create innovative conceptions of symbolic logic.
