Estratégias alimentares com redução de carboidratos para o tratamento de Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2.

Estratégia low carb tem sido estudada como mais uma alternativa utilizada no tratamento do Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2. Nesse sentido, pesquisar sobre o tema é justificável, pois o número de diabéticos no Brasil e no mundo aumentou de forma epidêmica tornando a doença uma prioridade de saúde global. Logo, esta pesquisa objetiva identificar e explicar as principais estratégias alimentares com baixo carboidrato, analisar o impacto no tratamento e prevenção da doença para que seja viável examinar os benefícios de sua utilização e comparar com as estratégias tradicionais utilizadas. Os 36 trabalhos revisados classificaram dieta low carb aquela com percentagem de carboidrato inferior ou igual a 26% da ingestão diária ou até 130g/dia e a de muito baixo carboidrato as com até 50g/dia. As informações analisadas colaboraram para mostrar que os resultados são efetivos no controle da hemoglobina glicada, perda de peso, glicemia em jejum e redução do uso de medicamentos e proporcionar uma melhor qualidade de vida, porém mais estudos, com prazos e amostras maiores, são necessários para apoiar essa estratégia, pois como bem disse William Osler: “Medicina é a ciência da incerteza e a arte da probabilidade”, e na nutrição não é diferente, pois a ciência não é exata.
