POTENCIAL PROFILÁCTICO Y TERAPÉUTICO DE LA SUPLEMENTACIÓN DE ZINC EN LA INCIDENCIA DE TRASTORNOS DEL GUSTO Y MUCOSITIS DURANTE LA QUIMIOTERAPIA: REVISIÓN SISTEMÁTICA

Introducción: La quimioterapia puede provocar efectos adversos como mucositis y trastornos del gusto, que tienden a reducir la ingesta diaria de nutrientes, contribuyendo a una disminución del estado nutricional, peor calidad de vida y riesgo de interrupciones del tratamiento. La suplementación con zinc se ha considerado como una opción para la profilaxis y tratamiento de estas afecciones. Por lo tanto, esta revisión tiene como objetivo resumir la evidencia disponible sobre el uso profiláctico y terapéutico de la suplementación con zinc en la mucositis y los trastornos del gusto en pacientes sometidos a quimioterapia. Materiales y métodos: Revisión sistemática de ensayos clínicos aleatorios considerando como resultados mucositis y trastornos del gusto. Los artículos fueron buscados en bases de datos electrónicas: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane, VHL, Web of Science y en las referencias de los artículos encontrados. Dos revisores realizaron de forma independiente la selección, la extracción de datos y la evaluación de la calidad metodológica. La evaluación del riesgo de sesgo se realizó mediante la herramienta RoB 2. Resultados y discusión: De un total de 322 estudios recuperados en las búsquedas, 3 fueron elegibles. Los estudios fueron heterogéneos en relación con los participantes, la intervención (dosis) y las medidas de evaluación de resultados. Sólo un estudio confirmó la hipótesis de que la suplementación con zinc previene la incidencia de mucositis (p<0,05). Sin embargo, este fue el único entre los estudios elegibles que se consideró que tenía un riesgo bajo de sesgo en términos de calidad metodológica. Conclusión: Aunque existe una tendencia del sulfato de zinc a reducir la incidencia y/o gravedad de la mucositis, no hay evidencia suficiente sobre su efectividad.
