Abstract

The prolactin secretion is stimulated by the gestation, breast-feeding ai1d manipulation of the teats, rest, stress, oxytocin and other factors. The most important influence on the prolactin secretion consists on the combination of pregnancy, estrogens and breast-feeding. ln goats SPRD the prolactin serum levels observed on the l OOth of pregnancy, kidding and at the 23rd day postpaitum werel.03±0.12 , l.66±0.2S, and 0.98±0.20 ng/mL, respectively. There was significant difference between the prolactin levels on the kidding and on the subsequent days (p <O.O S ). There was no relation between the prolactin serum levels on ante and postpaitum ai1d the kidding type (simple or double) (p >O.OS) . ln conclusion, the prolactin secretion evolution isnot regular, suggesting that it be on a pulsatile form belong the pregnancy pe1iod, maintaining with better regularity duiing postpartum.
