The purpose of this article is to present an original contribution to contemporary philosophy about the limits of sensibility and intelligibility, based on an analysis of Aldous Huxley's thought expressed in The Doors of Perception. In order to achieve the general objective, we will demonstrate how the aesthetic and metaphysical nature of the psychedelic experience can make it possible to unveil phenomenological dimensions that go beyond the scope of Western rationalist and empiricist logics. Furthermore, we will elucidate that in a very different way to drugs produced by the pharmaceutical industry, which are devoid of any symbolic and cultural significance, the sacred plants used in multimillennial rituals are like keys that open the doors of perception, sacraments that enable both a deeper contemplation of the truly real and a higher connection between the human and the divine. In general terms, through an analytical-descriptive methodology that intertwines bibliographical review, close reading, critical approaches and creative writing on the themes mentioned, we will demonstrate as a result of the subsequent investigation to what extent psychedelia can be understood not only as an interpretative horizon for philosophical reflections, but also as an opening up of consciousness to new ways of being that transcend the standards imposed by hegemonic ontologies.
