A study of error’s conception on the Fourth Meditation

Abstract

The Fourth Meditation discusses the problem of error, traditionally considered resolved by the epistemic-psychological thesis, considering error as originated by the misuse of the judging faculty, when the will overrides the intellect’s determination. However, this view answers only the problem regarding the manner through which error is operationalized, without explaining its existence. Accordingly, the present article aims to explain that the resolution brings up a metaphysical thesis, i.e. the thesis resorts to the notion of diversity of creation, reaching a compatibility of a perfect God with error’s existence.
