Museums as living spaces student learning and perceptions
Main Article Content
Abstract
Access to cultural spaces such as museums, galleries, and theaters for elementary school students, especially those in public schools, is still very limited. These places offer other learning and development opportunities, but for many, these experiences are in-person only. This study aims to analyze the perceptions of 29 students, from 6th to 9th grade, who took part in a guided tour of a museum in Belo Horizonte. A questionnaire was administered to analyze the experiences, service, exhibitions, meanings of the visit, and intention to return. The reports revealed that museums are dynamic and knowledge-rich spaces, capable of transporting students to different eras, cultures, and perspectives. In addition to preserving historical objects and promoting artistic appreciation, they stimulate curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and respect for cultural diversity. Thus, museums are essential to the education of young people, providing discovery, learning, and inspiring experiences.
