This article means to analyze discutions in the brazilian public sphere about the “school without party” movement. To this end, it will be highlighted the notion of “political” and how it’s misuse both undermines and adequate critique of the movement in question, and also prevents one from seeing what really is in dispute. It is considered a “misuse” precisely because, as I argue, the epicenter of current conflicts is the definition of political, so it is necessary to face the question frontally, which has not been done. From these considerations it is also discussed other issues dear to the teaching of history, through the argumentation of a political character intrinsic to its nature. Finally, one asks what would be a meaningful learning in the face of this set of questions.
