Abstract

This article presents the results of a master's research that analyzes the hygienist speeches of the beginning of the 20th century, from the source of the annals of the 1st Medical Congress of Pernambuco, which took place between April 25 and May 2, 1909. Discussing about hygiene in the city of Recife - structure, sanitation, habitation -, professionals point out problems and solutions, from their distant perspective by their social formation. To dialogue with the work and deepen the analysis, we used the tools of Discourse Analysis proposed by Linguistics, which allowed us to expand the possibilities of understanding this historical moment.
