Abstract

The present work aims to understand the benefits of using songs as an auxiliary element in the History of Military Polity classes in the 9th grade classes. Music has become an important teaching tool for learning history, because when working with it, the student can perceive the historical moment and later analyze it in a broader context and in this way the teacher will not be just stuck to the textbook. Working with music is to broaden the range of languages, allowing you to discover new avenues of learning. In this sense, using Chico Buarque de Holanda and Gilberto Gil's songs, "Cálice" and "Apesar de Você", we will try to demonstrate how the teacher can use certain musics in the classroom, in the case of these, addressing the military dictatorship in Brazil in other aspects that is not contemplated in the textbook. Keeping in mind that music is part of the student's daily life, it is interesting to use it in order to facilitate the students' understanding of more complex terms, such as repression and censorship, mainly seeking a greater assimilation of the context of the period.
