DESPAIR AS BAD RELATIONSHIP AND BAD RELATIONSHIP AS ALIENATION
WHAT DO KIERKEGAARD AND SIMONE WEIL HAVE IN COMMON?

This article aims to situate Kierkegaard's work on despair, with an emphasis on the bad relationship with the finite-infinite synthesis (which defines the human being), in the consequent establishment of the finitude characteristic of modern society. In view of this, Simone Weil contributes to thinking about the bad-synthesis involved in an alienating social dimension of life, and not only directed at the individual existence of the subject, as Kierkegaard thinks. Although one emphasizes the existential order and the other the ethical order, they demonstrate that they have perceived in the infinite-finite relationship a problem in terms of a type of despair, one in which the human being is interdicted from his spiritual condition.
