Airy corner in a pleasant world: taking care of tolerance in a dialogic-thinking workshop

Abstract

The ongoing intolerance in Brazilian schools does not arise by chance - but appears to be closely related to our recent political-economic situation. Extremist ideas - based on supremacist positions - feed a political Manichaeism that favors the distinction between us and them, good and bad, pure and depraved. An economic model whose leitmotif reproduces individualism and meritocracy can also contribute to the expansion of this scenario. A dogmatic and moralizing teaching of Philosophy - even though it is rationally founded - does not seem to favor an intervention that aims to achieve a more pleasant school life. A possible starting point with the necessary strength to face this problem would be in the pedagogical practice that considers not only the rational aspects - but that also takes care of the sentimental-affective-passionate dimension of the school community.
