AUTHENTICITY AS A KEY TO FREEDOM IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF IDENTITY
A HEIDEGGERIAN ANALYSIS
Keywords:
authenticity, Dasein, identity, HeideggerAbstract
In this essay, we explore the relevance of “authenticity” in human existence, in light of Martin Heidegger's philosophy, focusing on the concepts of openness of being and authenticity. Using a narrative review methodology, we analyze studies that establish connections between Heideggerian philosophy and the contemporary identity agenda. We demonstrate how authenticity, the search for a genuine life and reflection on one's own existence, is crucial in the construction of individual identity. We highlight how this emphasis on authenticity can question labels and categorizations imposed by social groups, thus promoting freedom in the formation of each person’s “ways of being”. This analysis reveals how Heidegger's philosophy offers a unique perspective on human existence, enriching philosophical and identity dialogue. By providing a framework for reflection on authenticity, this research contributes to the understanding of individual freedom in identity formation and highlights the continued relevance of Heideggerian ideas in contemporary times.
