The Thanato-Vitalist Unconscious: Near-Death and Connective Experiences in Amazonian Ancestral Medicine
Keywords:

Recently, scientific research has highlighted striking similarities between some near-death events and the mystical experiences experienced in healing rituals. Anomalistic encounters, near-death experiences, relational technologies and enchantment lines are some of the elements that constitute the traditional practices of Amazonian ancestral medicine. The healing potentials of these practices are, however, inseparable from the Amerindian worldview and the “psychedelic happening” during the trance experience. The present study intends to problematize the connective experiences of healing rituals in the indigenous Amazon, based on the notion of “thanato-vitalist unconscious”.
