Checklist as a management tool for the hospital hygiene and cleaning process: integrative review

This study aims to describe the evidence on the use of checklists in the hospital cleaning and sanitation process. The selection of articles was conducted in the databases of the Virtual Health Library and the National Library of Medicine - National Institutes of Health, following pre-established criteria. Seven articles published between 2006 and 2020 were included, highlighting three thematic categories: (1) standardization of the hospital cleaning process, use of sanitizing agents, and occupational safety; (2) monitoring and evaluation of the cleaning process; and (3) continuous education in the hospital sanitation process. It is concluded that the checklist is an essential tool for managing hospital cleaning services, contributing to process standardization, assessment, and monitoring of practice effectiveness, as well as serving as a continuous training instrument for healthcare professionals.
