Diferença e singularidade: Notas sobre a crítica de Hegel a Spinoza

Resumo

Este ensaio tem por objetivo discutir o ponto de partida da crítica hegeliana de Spinoza. Para Hegel, o pensamento spinozano não consegue, embora o queira, dar um fundamento absoluto à diferença e à singularidade autoconsciente; daí por que o pensador holandês não teria alcançado a especificidade da concepção moderna da liberdade, tal como ela se encontra representada pelo cristianismo e efetivamente desenvolvida na modernidade pela mediação da particularidade na sociedade civil-burguesa. Hegel busca demonstrar sua tese na análise dos conceitos spinozanos de substância, atributos e modos: não haveria entre eles, segundo a crítica hegeliana, um desenvolvimento negativo imanente. Por conseqüência, o pensamento spinozano cairia num impasse: ou bem os modos finitos mantêm uma existência justaposta à substância ou bem se aniquilam em face dela. Para Hegel, é a segunda alternativa que caracteriza o pensamento de Spinoza.

Abstract

This essay intends to discuss the starting point of Hegel’s criticism of Spinoza. According to  Hegel, Spinoza’s idea doesn’t manage, even though it wants to, to give an absolute foundation to difference and self-conscious singularity; that is why the Dutch thinker didn’t  reach the specificity of the modern conception of freedom, as it is represented by Christianity and effectively developed in modernity by the mediation of the particularity in the civil-bourgeois society. Hegel hopes to demonstrate his thesis analyzing Spinoza’s concepts of substance, attributes and modes: there is not between them, according to Hegel’s criticism, an immanent negative development. Consequently, Spinoza’s thought ends up in an impasse: or the finite modes keep a juxtaposed existence to substance or they annihilate themselves because of it. To Hegel, it is the second alternative that characterizes Spinoza’s thought.
